History

NewSong Community Church June 2008
We meet in the church that was built for the Ebenezer Methodists and opened in 1833.
Recent history saw Orrel Battersby start the Bromsgrove Church of Christ in this building in 1988 as a church plant from East 91st Street Church in Indianapolis. BCC became Bromsgrove Christian Church a few years later but sadly, after Orrel left the church, numbers declined.
Then two American missionaries came to support the work and the church began to grow again. In 1997 Peter Billingham became Pastor and he started to introduce lots of new ideas. Sadly, the church declined to 17 people but along with a committed few, the church was re-launched as NewSong in 2000. NewSong became well known for its magazine style of Sunday service called ‘Rhythms of Life’, a mixture of lively worship, practical teaching and creative arts presentations. The church grew as many people found this approach related to their needs.
Peter left NewSong in 2007 and John Notman became the Minister in 2008. John is developing the ‘Purpose Driven’ style of church organisation developed by Rick Warren at Saddleback Church in Southern California. |
