Purpose driven

NewSong is a 'Purpose Driven' Church which means that we aim to fulfil five purposes that God has for the church. These can be found in two passages in the New Testament which we call The Great Commandment and The Great Commission.

The Great Commandment

"Jesus replied - Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it - Love your neighbour as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (from Matthew's Gospel chapter 22)

The Great Commission

"Jesus said - Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (from Matthew's Gospel chapter 28)

The 5 purposes are:

Worship - Expressing our love for God with our whole life, not just on Sunday.

Fellowship - Encouraging, and practically supporting those who belong to the body of Christ.

Discipleship - Helping people to become more like Jesus in their thoughts, feelings and behaviour.

Ministry - Demonstrating God’s love to others by meeting their needs, and healing their hurts in Jesus’ name. Equipping God’s people for works of service.

Evangelism - Presenting the Good News about Jesus, in an appropriate way to those in our community.
